The Nation calls for Obama Impeachment

Recommended Posts

Wow, one of the biggest/strongest voices for liberalism in the country has come out for impeachment of the President.

I guess the glow from Obama's aura has lost a bit of it's sheen.

In the pages of The Nation, the oldest continuously published weekly in the country and the self-described “flagship of the left,” a former member of the House of Representatives has called for the impeachment of the president over revelations of massive government surveillance of ordinary citizens.

Democrat Elizabeth Holtzman of New York, who sat on the House Judiciary Committee during the Watergate era, powerfully yet dispassionately lays out the case for the immediate impeachment of the president.

“Nothing less is necessary to protect our constitutional system and preserve our democracy,” she declares.

The last straw for the retired Congresswoman was the revelation that the president “directed the wiretapping of hundreds, possibly thousands, of Americans” (a number that is likely conservative).

“As a matter of constitutional law, these and other misdeeds constitute grounds for the impeachment,” writes Holtzman in her bombshell treatise. “A President, any President, who maintains that he is above the law — and repeatedly violates the law — thereby commits high crimes and misdemeanors, the constitutional standard for impeachment and removal from office.”

The eloquent Harvard Law grad provides a devastating legal critique of the vast executive-branch scheme to log every phone call in the United States.

“It now appears that thousands of calls were monitored and that the information obtained may have been widely circulated among federal agencies,” Holtzman writes.

The skilled jurist also draws eerily ominous parallels between what’s happening right now and the actions of the corrupt Nixon administration.

“Among his other abuses of power, President Nixon ordered the FBI to conduct warrantless wiretaps of seventeen journalists and White House staffers,” Holtzman sagely explains. “In fact, the first illegal Nixon wiretap was of a reporter who, in 1969, revealed the secret bombing of Cambodia, a program that President Nixon wanted to hide from the American people and Congress.”

Impeachment??? I'm surprised he hasn't been assassinated.

You can thank the Secret Service. 'Fact I'll thank them for you, since I know one of them.

By the way, Gboy, I'm very troubled about this surveillance business. D*mn troubled. My liberal friends are too. You'd be crazy not to be.

B. I didn't vote for Bush either time

Other than those points, you were right on target!

Hey fellas, there is still redemption for you to change your ways!

Do like I did after 1976, when I mistakenly joined the Libertarian party, because I was sick and tired of the McGovern socialist Duhmocraps, and Nixonian Turd Phuckers, and decided to disavow ALL political parties, and embarked upon years of my own independent research, which involved reading a lot of true historical tomes written by REAL historians.

You see, in a quest for truth, we need to put on blinders, and only seek reliable sources like true history. And we need to toss away this corrupted left-right paradigm of conservative vs. liberal brainwash. Research is tedious and trying, as we have to fact check many statements, and even fact check the fact checkers, and dig deep like a dedicated homicide detective would, or an investigative journalist would.

Just scanning the web to look for justifications of your own slanted opinions, doesn't get it! You must select and ban certain sources at the start, and only trust those sources who pan out accurately.

As hard as it is, the truth shall set you free! I am as much as is possible, neutral in my viewpoints now, and also able to see both sides of an argument.

So start by turning off your Fox News, MSNBC, Rush, Savage, Beck, and stop looking for reaffirmation of your biased viewpoints.

Oh. Guess that means nobody else did either. That makes sense, actually. A judicially-active Supreme Court installed Bush in office. If all the blacks in Florida who were deliberately disenfranchised by Republican Katharine Harris had been allowed their rights, Bush would never have seen the White House except from the sidewalk.

LOL, I love the fact that you liberals still can't get over the fact that Bush won Florida. Even the MSM newspapers confirmed it when they did their private recounts.

And there were no blacks disenfranchised by Harris, anyone that wanted to vote had a provisional ballot available to them, and all provisional ballots were counted. What's your next faux outrage?

Not gonna happen. Deal with it. If Duh-bayah can get away with the murder of thousands of U.S. service men and women in his war of choice in Iraq then any President can get away with ANYTHING. Where was all of your concern for the men and women who died in Iraq? Asshole.

What does this rant about Iraq have to do with the OP? Nothing.

I guess as an Obamatron, you feel obligated to distract from his failures, right?

Typical right wing tactic !Take a single person...or even a few and then dishonestly parlay that into a topic to make it seem it involves more people feeling that same way.

Your dream of Obama being impeached has come and gone.....so quickly Toto.

And your thread title is a bold faced lie. One person from a magazine does not represent everyone.

If Katrina Vanden Heuvel called for impeachment...THEN you might have something.

But as usual you got nothing but an empty bag of dishonest tricks.

Typical conservative commentary. They know they're losing every single fight they embark on....so this is what is left.

Bush was not installed by the Supreme Crock: let's not get into revisionist history. Gore wanted vote recounts in about three counties in FL, and to reject absentee ballots not in on time (quite arrogant, "Only recount votes in counties that may help me, disregard all others," even a slimy, very undemocratic tactic to actually take to court!), and Bush demanded equal protection, that all FL must be recounted, not just those counties favorable to Gore, nor absentee votes dismissed from troops overseas, which weighed in Bush's favor. The decision was yes, equal protection of all voters, the whole state must be recounted if there's to be a recount, which is only just, but there was no time to recount the entire state, before the election had to be certified by a statutory date and a president declared, law which could not just be annulled. That would be activism! I followed every detail very closely. This "Bush was selected" is nothing but lying spin and sour grapes. The decision in this case was a legal one.

Bush v Gore — Appointment of U.S. President by the U.S. Supreme ...

revisionist history is the ONLY history cons have.
