Obama in Berlin: 200,000 in 2008. 6,000 today.

Barack Obama returned to Berlin today, almost five years to the day from when he delivered his famous"Victory Column" speech that cemented his reputation as an international rockstar. Unfortunately, his reception this time was a lot different.

An estimated 200,000 people turned out in July 2008 to see then Candidate Obama deliver an address in front of one of Germany's most notable landmarks. He took a lot of criticism from Germans for his choice of location and from his U.S. political opponents who weren't happy about seeing an American presidential hopeful being adored by tens of thousands of foreigners. The Berlin event was larger than any of his U.S. campaign stops, though some critics even disputed the crowd figures. (Republicans in the heat of a campaign, obviously found other flaws with the speech.)

Fast forward to 2013, and many are now saying that Obama's reputation is "tarnished," by his recent snooping scandals, his extensions of the war on terror, and the hard luck realities of failing to deliver on all your promises. (Even ones you didn't really make.) He's "demystified" and "no longer a superstar" in German eyes. Now he's just another world leader on a state visit, and whatever problems people have with U.S. policy are on his shoulders.

And instead of opening up the speech to the whole city, Obama spoke in front only about 5,000-6,000spectators, all of them invited guests.

And it looks like Obama needed his own Berlin wall:

And evidently Obama gave a truly poor performance, which Chrissy Matthews blamed on the sun...

Yes, his popularity slides with his support of right-wing policies. I'm glad you folks are starting to wake up and see the light.

Yet again we see an Obamatron, unable to support the messiah, blaming the "right wing" for his problems.

Amazing.

What support? He is a gelatin man.

His spine was fucked up progressive bullshit wrapped in liberal propaganda. Well, the wrap is breaking down so how strong is his shit-spine?

No surprises here. Euro's tend not to be drones, unlike those stuck with riding this train wreck to the end in the US.

Europeans may seem to not be drones at times.

Roll some of the worst wars in humankind over any continent and see how "united" they are as a people.

Not being "drones" is as close to a compliment as you can get to describing the chaotic mess that's left.

Where's all the ultraliberal hyperposters...on this one ?

They could read this once again in case their confidence has been shaken...the ultraliberal agenda driven media is not going to let the first Afro-American President fail...no matter what !

In fairness to President Obama, it’s not that his Berlin speech yesterday was any more mushy than the one in 2008. It’s just that the first time around, so many chose not to notice.

Barack Obama bombs in Berlin: a weak, underwhelming address from a floundering president

… snip …

In stark contrast to that of his presidential predecessors, Barack Obama’s message on Wednesday was pure mush, another clichéd “citizens of the world” polemic with little substance. This was a speech big on platitudes and hopeless idealism, while containing much that was counter-productive for the world’s superpower. Ultimately it was little more than a laundry list of Obama’s favourite liberal pet causes, including cutting nuclear weapons, warning about climate change, putting an end to all wars, shutting Guantanamo, ending global poverty, and backing the European Project. It was a combination of staggering naiveté, the appeasement of America’s enemies and strategic adversaries, and the championing of more big government solutions.
