What Does It Take For A President To Be Impeached Nowadays?

Recommended Posts

The latest scandel involving Obama's adminstration is this:

http://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/irs-targeted-groups-critical-of-government-documents-from-agency-probe-show/2013/05/12/bb38e5bc-bb24-11e2-97d4-a479289a31f9_story.html

At various points over the past two years, Internal Revenue Service officials singled out for scrutiny not only groups with “tea party” or “patriot” in their names but also nonprofit groups that criticized the government and sought to educate Americans about the U.S. Constitution, according to documents in an audit conducted by the agency’s inspector general.

The documents, obtained by The Washington Post from a congressional aide with knowledge of the findings, show that the IRS field office in charge of evaluating applications for tax-exempt status decided to focus on groups making statements that “criticize how the country is being run” and those that were involved in educating Americans “on the Constitution and Bill of Rights.”

Jerry Zeifman, a lifelong Democrat and the man who wrote the articles of impeachment against Nixon, certainly believed that abuse of the IRS was an impeachable offense. That's why one of the articles he drew up for Nixon's possible impeachment included abuse of the IRS … Nixon using it to harass political enemies. Years later, Zeifman also said Clinton's abuse of the IRS (using it to target his enemies) was worse than anything Nixon had done and that he should have been impeached a second time because of it. So I'm almost sure that Zeifman would now say this latest IRS abuse ranks as an impeachable offense. And surely modern Democrats wouldn't disagree with such a Democrat sage?

And were that the only impeachable offense.

No, I suspect the likes of Zeifman would be kept quite busy now because the past 5 years have been filled with them.

How about Fast And Furious scandal? That's where Obama and the administration tried to cover up giving assault weapons to drug cartels with no mechanism for tracking them … an effort they apparently hoped would lead to more gun control in the US?

How about the Benghazi coverup? That's where Obama and administration lied to the public and covered up the circumstances surrounding the death of a US embassador and 3 other Americans … just to win the 2012 US election and preserve Hillary's options for running in 2016? Surely what happened in Benghazi is much worse that Watergate ... and Democrats insisted that was impeachable?

How about the invasion of Libya? That's where Obama violated the Constitution by ordering a military intervention without Congressional approval? Even Obama said in 2007 that “the President does not have power under the Constitution to unilaterally authorize a military attack in a situation that does not involve stopping an actual or imminent threat to the nation", and Libya involved neither. Obama also ignored War Powers Act provisions with regards to Libya. And do you know that on March 7, 2012, Defense Secretary Panetta told Senators that the President has authority to take our country to war without Congressional approval? He said international permission, rather than Congressional approval, provides a legal basis for military action. Imagine that? Surely after all the calls for Bush's impeachment over a war where he obtained Congressional approval, Libya was an impeachable offense because Obama did not? Especially given that Obama took an oath to "preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States" and his action directly violated the Constitution … even according to many Democrats?

In the same vein, when Obama appointed numerous people to cabinet level positions (he called them czars) without the advice and consent of the Senate, as required by the Constitution, didn't he commit an impeachable offense? He also made illegal recess appointments of other members of his cabinet that required Senate approval by declaring the Senate in recess. But the President has no Constitutional authority to do this. Even the courts have now agreed.

And surely Obama knew major provisions of Obamacare were unConstitutional when he forced it through Congress over the objections of all Republicans and the American people? And even though a Federal courts has now declared the entire law unconstitutional, he continues to impliment it. A judge ruled "because the individual mandate is unconstitutional and not severable, the entire Act must be declared void" and unless/until this is overruled by the Supreme Court, it's void. To act otherwise is to act unConstitutionally … unLawfully. Furthermore, the proof that Obama knew this was a fatal flaw is that he had his friends at that IRS essentially rewriting the law after passage. They have no power to do that. A clearly impeachable act. A President is not a King.

How about impeaching Obama for using the Whitehouse to enrich his political friends? Most of the stimulus, auto bailout and Obama's "green jobs" spending was designed to enrich those who Obama considers political friends. They were in essense slush funds to help him win election. Cronyism, plain and simple. Surely that is contrary to his oath of office?

The US Senate refused to pass Obama's Cap and Trade bill, but Obama has ordered the Environmental Protection Agency to use regulations to impliment much of the bills provisions anyway. In doing so, he is taking action in defiance of the Congress and the Constitution. This is impeachable. And it's being done to line the pockets of his cronies and political allies ... not for the good of the nation.

Here's another chargeable offense. A federal court ruled that the Department of the Interior (DOI) does not have the authority to issue a moratorium on drilling for oil in the Gulf. The Obama adminstration ignored this rulinig, so the court found the administration in contempt for doing so. The judge said "such dismissive conduct, viewed in tandem with the re-imposition of a second blanket and substantively identical moratorium, and in light of the national importance of this case, provide this court with clear and convincing evidence of the government’s contempt." And to this day, Obama's DOI continues to stymie drilling efforts. Just yesterday, six coastal governors called on Washington to end the drilling moratorium. Surely, when this country desperately needs energy and the jobs this would bring, this is not only contemptible, but impeachable behavior?

The US Supreme Court has ruled that the FCC has no Constitutional authority to control the internet. Yet, Obama has ordered the FCC to adopt regulations to do that that and to even impliment a kill switch so that he can shut down the internet. When bills were introduced to give Obama that kill switch, they were withdrawn because of public outcry, yet Obama announced he will sign an international treaty that gives he purports gives the same authority. And he will sign this treaty by "Executive Act" and not bring it to the Senate for ratification as required in the Constitution. Is this not an impeachable offense all by itself?

How about Obama declaring the Defense of Marriage Act unconstitional? Does he have that authority? Does he have the authority to order his DOJ to not defend it against lawsuits? Or how about his refusing to enforce laws against voter intimidation, refusing to enforce federal law requiring states to purge their voter registration lists of deceased and the illegally registered, and refusing to enforce laws requiring proof of identity? Isn't Obama acting like a TYRANT ... disobeying his oath of office to enforce the laws?

And then there's Obama's behavior where illegal immigration is concerned. He's declared certain federal lands off limits to federal, state and local authorities … lands that are being used as corridors for illegal immigration and drug smuggling. He has ordered the border patrol not to arrest most illegal immigrants. He has stopped deportation proceedings against thousands of illegals and is offering them work permits instead. He failed to build a fence as required by law. He's joined with other countries in lawsuits against states that have tried to enforce immigration laws. And now he is instituting the so-called "Dream Act" without Congressional approval … because Congress would have voted it down. He is a President, not a King. But he's acting like a King, who can ignore rather than enforce the laws as is his job.

When Obama doesn't like a law, then like a King he just issues a waiver … especially when it helps political friends. Look at all the waivers to Obamacare. Look at the waivers he granted his allies in the schools when they failed to meet No Child Left Behind requirements? Seriously folks, what's the point of electing a Congress if Obama is just going to ignore them and their laws? Article I, Section I of the Constitutions gives Congress the exclusive power to write laws Not the President. Not Obama. He's only responsible for ENFORCING them. But he's not doing that … certainly not where his political friends and allies are concerned. So when a President is violating the Constitution in such an aggregious ways, shouldn't he be impeached?

Seriously, what's it take for a Democrat President to be impeached now days? :D

So you agree that W should have been impeached when he fired all the capital gains inspector IRS agents to prevent capital gains audits?

Unless it's proven that obama directed singling out, he'll be ok. It would do him well to fire, maybe prosecute those who did it.

BHO could get caught getting a car date from a minor White House intern and the ultraliberals would blame the REPUBs...they'd say he was set up and forced into it.

And in their minds they would really believe it !

Bush inherited that attack from Clinton's letting bin laden go....what is worse is barry ignoring our Ambassador's requests for help. Perhaps if the Ambassador had been black then barry would have let our troops save them.

Just like I predicted...the coward showed his true colors.

Funny....everything Bush did that was criminal was Clinton's fault and any mistake Obama makes...he owns himself...

in glorious wingnut wisdom.

First, the word is Democratic, not Democrat, when used as in your last line. I'm getting really tired of the Right throwing that epithet at Democrats. Why don't Democrats retaliate by calling Republicans "Bastards" until they get some couth?

They'll never be sufficient votes to impeach the president; and given the low favorability this society has for Republicans, practically any such attempt will look like nothing more than the Republicans finding an excuse to do it. Please don't tell me of the importance of the offense; you and I know that such things, until you get really out there, are in the eye of the beholder. Put another way, it's been said that people defend those they like by saying, in effect, "He may be the devil, but he's our devil." All humans are prone to this kind of thinking.

Bush inherited that attack from Clinton's letting bin laden go....what is worse is barry ignoring our Ambassador's requests for help. Perhaps if the Ambassador had been black then barry would have let our troops save them.

Clinton said, over and over, that he did not have the legal authority to get bin Laden at those times. I think it's reasonable to believe that Bill Clinton, despite what the Right said about him and says about Obama -- that they want "to destroy the country," what a load of bull -- was telling the truth. So we have to go by that, unless of course one is one of those people who believe the US has the right to break international or any other law to get what it wants. All that "American exceptionalism" and similar arrogant nonsense.
