Why Did Lawmakers Drop Assault Weapons Ban?

Recommended Posts

The anti gun lobby has become way too powerful in this country. Our lawmakers need to grow a backbone and stop being pushed around by special interest groups, Why is there a problem with extended background checks, we don't need military weapons in the streets killing children either. The politicians are not going to do anything about gun violence so it is up to the people.

$32 MILLION by the NRA last year buys a lot of power -- of course, you need dishonest men in place

to fall in line to do the dirty work -- pre-owned and pre-bribed by the NRA.

Hard to say what actually happened -- last I heard was that Harry Reid, who is a major betrayor of

liberal voters, imo, had dumped old pal Wayne La Pierre and was going to support the assault weapons

ban -- then next I heard he had pulled all legislation.

It basically boils down to too many rural democrat congress critter unwilling to lose their job for a feel good won't solve the problem piece of legistlation.

Don't think so -- no one is that "rural" any longer that they can't be effected by gun violence --

plus, we all pay for these woundings and deaths and their impact on society.

They negative effect they have on our towns and communities, our cities.

Also, there's an article up on the internet today making clear that NEWTOWN is not the only

town or community to become active in the anti-gun/anti-gun violence campaign.

Evidently, many people in "rural" areas are joining the campaigns for gun control.

Police departments and officials support gun control.

Many members of the NRA support gun control, including background checks.

The entire nation is concerned -- more than 86% of Americans want gun control.

Only $32 million in NRA money is preventing legislation.

I don't think the NRA understands what NEWTOWN did to America -- it was pretty much the

last straw re guns and gun-violence -- and especially re the idiot Wayne La Pierre and the NRA.

Ya think so? A reporter asked Max Baucus why he didn't vote with the rest of the democrats on background checks, his response..."Montana."

Alaska, Arkansas, Montana, and North Dakota, sorry but your opinion of how us Rednecks feel about gun control is nowhere close to reality.

Because 90% of Americans didn't want it. It was a feel good won't solve the problem piece of legislation.

The real reason for the sun-setting of the law was it really accomplished nothing. The problem then and now is what is the definition of an assault weapon. The real assault weapon used by the military is fully automatic. That is already against the law without a very special and expensive license. The definitions created in that law were circumvented by just making minor modifications of the weapons. This is because for example the AR 15 is a version of the M-16. The original M-16 was cosmetically like regular rifles. The current one has had pistol grips etc added over time. The fact that it is all about the cosmetics makes the problem almost unsolvable. Create the law and again the modifications will be made to be within the law.

Don't forget that only 1% of all homicides in the US are done with a rifle of any kind, that includes bolt, semi, pump, lever, muzzle, and break action. To add to that 97% of of all shootings in the US end with 6 rounds or less being fired. legislation limiting mag size, and assault rifles wouldn't have really changed any thing anything.

A couple of points here- 1st, where assault rifles came from originally: why, Germany, of course! It seems the Nazi Wehrmacht (army) was having a problem with being outnumbered & needed something handy to create as quickly as poss the max number of casualties amongst the Allied troops(us!). So being clever, & Germans, in 1944 they did. It fell to Hitler to name it and it was christened the "sturm gevehr", which precisely translated, is "assault rifle". Isn't that just dandy? These cleverly designed weapons are a gift to us all from the freakin' NAZIS........ keep that in mind when you feel compelled to defend their use.

i'd go on, but its begun to SNOW here, and that's just too depressing...........
