Why Are There More Conservatives Than Liberals?

Recommended Posts

I am new to this forum. I was looking for a place to discuss the issues and thought a liberal forum would have more liberals than conservatives. What I am finding is just another forum inudated with conservatives and petty name calling. Where are the liberals?

SO it would seem. It is always amusing to read what I believe in because I am a liberal. For me, the stereotype I have been assigned to has nothing to do what what I really believe. Oh well, I will find out who is will to have a discussion and who is just here to bash

Conservatives are basically christians with a political agenda. And what are christians known for? Interfering in other peoples lives and beliefs. Just ask any "primative" culture that christians pollute in the name of god. Missionaries go to these poor, unsuspecting peoples and totally destroy their way of life with their beliefs.

It's the same with conservatives. They see a liberal minded forum and can't resist the urge to "reform" us. Political missionaries. It's in their blood.

What is the point of coming to a board to have your own beliefs parrotted right back at you? How can you grow from that?

This is true. however, being called pinko commies and socialist deviants, as well as having to hear about crackpot birther conspiracies does nothing to forward a dialog either does it?

Save all that for people who actually believe it.

Gailybee kept that down from us right wing crackpots. I couldn't call you a pinko commie and social deviant without at least backing it up.

It's a very good question. First of all, in terms of percentage of the population, I would guess that there are more people with liberal views than conservative. Liberals believe in doing the right thing for the environment, for civil rights, for public health and safety, for our schools and universities and for world peace. I have to believe that in this day and age most people sincerely believe in all of those things. I think that there is a small but very angry and determined group of people with an axe to grind, for whatever reason, and they come onto this and other website and do the troll thing. They managed to shut down the forum on the NEA website even though they were not teachers or union members! This type of behavior is not what respectful, conscientious, responsible people do. It makes me sad.

I think it’s true that there are currently more conservatives than liberals. The word conservative doesn’t convey what the movement really is, but it is the most widely accepted word for it, so that’s what I’ll use.

If you look at the Democratic party for the last forty years or so, it has moved to the right each election cycle to attract more votes (to ride the coattails of Republican election success.) Currently Democrats represent a centrist position at best. Republicans invest more money in the system. It attracts more corporate money, it attracts more behavioral scientists who develop strategies, and it affords more media time. Over time, this becomes ingrained in society. It molds the populous and drives society to reflect the conservative ideal. It controls the purse strings, influences our educational system, and replicates itself in the minds of the next generation, or dumbs them down.

To look at the really big picture, in tough economic times throughout history, people tend to become conservative, when times are good, they’ll be more liberal. The U.S. rode the wave of the post WWII boom until the 1970’s (it started to downturn in the late 1950’s, but was fully spent by the end of the 1970’s). Reaganomics was birthed and several so called bubble economies have inflated and popped since then. There have been some rather desperate attempts to return to the booming 1950’s by recreating the historic events that created it – military spending, etc. The populous who are driven more by their emotions and fears, appeal to their God with increasing religious conservatism, which politicians take advantage of in the name of values.

The problem with worshiping the best of economic times is that it is unsustainable. If a sine wave to represents the ups and downs of an economy, the best one could ever hope for is the mean average. The U.S. has taken the high points of the economy and made them their norm. When people talk about returning to the good old days, they really mean they want to return to the boom times. It’s not realistic.

So, I feel the wave of conservatism will be with us for a while and will probably grow for some time, until the populous has literally nothing to lose and the seeds of revolution one again germinate.

We are here, but not a majority, sadly. You, like I, just have to learn who they are or complain to the webmaster.

The majority of America (conservatives) is simply against the liberals rather than for the success of the United States Of America. It is human nature to stick with something and not want to embrace a big change (the reason why our country is failing). If you look at all the economically successful countries Ex. Norway, Iceland etc. they all have mixed economies which is something our great country is in dyer need of to return to glory.

Hello Folks,

Please allow me to chime in. I am a 54 year old lifelong Democrat. This will probably draw some fire, but please allow me to express my Democratic views. I am a JFK, Dan Boren, Joe Leiberman type Dem. I am from a southern state, so yes, I am certifiably Blue-Dog.

I could have changed parties years ago, I did not. As Leiberman did not, when our party abandoned him. You guys realize that even thru his Independent Democrat faze he still caucussed with our party. (Did not have to, and the Repubs would have loved that)

I agree on many , most, party platform planks...i.e., Gay marriage (none of my business), gays in the military (every citizen should be allowed to serve), healthcare reform (we are the only western, modern nation, not to have some form of national healthcare...no brainer)

IMHO...Balance the budget. We are not Greece. Reign in spending. $750,000,000,000 farm bill. 20% devoted to American farms. 80% devoted to the SNAP Program??? Really?? Thats not a farm bill. Folks, I do have feelings for the less fortunate. In 2009 I was one of those millions of people that lost my job. I was 51 years old. I lost my house, my marriage, everthing I had. I substitute taught by day, and delivered pizzas by night. No one helped me. I tried to get 4 weeks worth of temporary food stamps (just to get by). I was told, "Sorry sir, but LAST year you made to much money" However, when I went back to work, the government was more than happy to bill me for thousands of dollars in taxes?? I believe in fairness...How is this Fair??? It makes me feel like I am just a worker drone. A simple widget in the government tax machine. As long as I am capable of working...great, but the moment I break down...just a simple piece to be discarded as useless.

Anyhow...thank you for allowing me the oppotunity to voice my feelings and concerns. Hope that I did not step on anyone's toes

Conservatives have to be more mouthy as they need to convince you of their lies. Liberals tend to be quieter, as truth speaks for itself

Yep, I agree. I remember thinking why are these guys so angry, and hateful all the time. I think part of it is their media sources. The Rush's, and Sean's are very good at their craft, and earn their millions feeding out of context statements designed to anger people like my Dad (life-long ultra conservative republican). Keeping them pissed off is easy because they WANT to be angry. I belong to 12 or 13 forums, many have forum rules. No religious, or political talk. You think that stops them..? Last year I decided to take a personal poll of which side opened the political door, and went on the attack. Out of 60 examples, exactly 100% were started by the angry right. Every single time.

Some of the media I listen to, Bill Maher, Jon Stewart, Steven Colbert, make me laugh so hard at their witty way of making the Republicans look like complete idiots.

The right's media keep them mad all the time. Some of the stuff they fall for I just can't believe it...!

This site was sold in 2007. Up to then it was a liberal forum. Since then there's nothing really liberal about.

Just look at the moderators. Most of them of ignorant tea baggers. The point of the site is to make money for the new -- can't blame them for that. But it's not a truly liberal site in any manner.

...sigh...

I know many Republicans who are not bullies. I know many Republicans who care deeply about our children.

I know many Republicans who don't support wars-in-vain.

When people generalize, they do the same thing that I see happening in this thread: everyone is painted with the same brush. That is not okay.

We have some rabid assholes on this site who love to group all Liberals into the same steaming pile. Let's not do that.

More evidence that this is indeed a GOP site.

Meaning what, exactly?

I am not a Republican. I don't generalize, as a rule. I don't like it when it happens on either side of the aisle.

If you have something to address with me, do so. Don't be cryptic.
