  1. I have completely avoided discussing MY MORALITY.
  2. Since the legality will be determined by the drug companies, there is no reason to discuss it politically. I do not discuss MY MORAL BELIEFS.
  3. An associated subject, is WHY DO PEOPLE BELIEVE THAT THE PILL IS A CONTRACEPTIVE? Who did the research? Who had the equipment? THE DRUG COMPANIES?
  4. LAWS ON ABORTION The laws on abortion were determined by the drug companies. The drug companies had introduced their new product, the BIRTH CONTROL PILL. Early on, they had not had the opportunity to claim that it did not work by causing abortions. So, they found some poor fool, and got abortion made legal. If you want to dispute the laws on abortion, you will need to take it up with the drug companies, and the Republican legislator who will defend them.
  5. And that they have the same right to force theirs on you?
  6. May I infer that you believe that you have the right to force your moral beliefs on others?
  7. If he believed it was moral, he would not have done anything immoral, IN HIS OWN MIND. Doesn't mean that it was legal. He would probably be sent to a mental facility, if they had any. Probably wind up being one of the many people with mental problems in a "for profit" jail instead.
  8. Well, cats at least. great book 1001 Uses for a Dead Cat
  9. No, I said if she does not believe it is immoral, it is not immoral, implied TO HER. What others believe is moral, or immoral, is implied TO THEM.
  10. YOU don't know what I think. You mentioned morality. Religion is normally accepted to be a group of people who have decided to agree on what they consider to be moral.
  11. MORALITY The question of morality is the question of the imposition of morality, or, the imposition of religious beliefs on another. If the mother does not believe that abortion is immoral, then she has done nothing immoral. If someone else believes that abortion is immoral, and attempts to stop the abortion, the immoral act is the stopping of the abortion, which is the imposition of one's religious beliefs on another person. It is a freedom of religion issue, both morally and legally.
  12. Political Parties are not attempting to get votes by claiming that they know how aspirin works.
  13. The issue is HOW the pill prevents pregnancy. The drug companies make LOTS of money because people believe it is a contraceptive. Because the drug companies told them it is. And that is how it works, EACH AND EVERY TIME. And it is just SO MUCH EASIER to believe the drug company.
  14. And you believe that because the people who make money from them told you that about the pill. And you are OK with abortion, as long as they are small, and you can hardly see them.
  15. Back when the birth control pill was first introduced, people thought that it worked by causing abortions. The drug companies found some stupid shill, and anonymously got the pill declared legal, thus removing any impediments to making a fortune by selling it. They are still making a fortune selling it, so they will continue to spend lots of money buying the politicians. So, there is zero chance of abortion ever becoming illegal again. The Republicans are the traditional "defenders of business", so they will never go against the wishes of the drug companies. They will make a few insignificant changes, here and there, to pretend that they want the religious vote, but Roe v Wade will never change.
  16. Abortion is legal because the drug companies want to keep the birth control pill legal. The Republicans will do anything the drug companies tell them to do.
  17. Carbon pollution will not begin the massive war that will occur when gas and oil begin to run out, and there is nothing to replace them.
  18. Was it the Koch brothers who declared that coal could never be made clean burning? And everybody said; "Yeah, must be true!"
  19. The college used to have 20-30 story high rise research towers, I was told were operating on government research dollars. The income from the research offset the tuition at the time. Just by coincidence, I recently had the opportunity to speak to the business manager who runs the research complex. The one that I was very interested in was the one that had been attempting to develop clean burning coal. A friend of mine had been working there. He was very upset when the development was shut down about 30 years back. He was convinced that they were so VERY CLOSE. The pilot plant was still there, unused. The rest of the office facility was partially rented out. IF the country was REALLY interested in alternative fuels and the environment, I would have expected that this facility would have been CRAWLING WITH PHDs, and other nerds. From what I have read, the attempts to develop clean burning coal have been pretty putrid, when compared to putting a man on the moon. However, the return from clean coal would be mega times the return that was received from space exploration.
  20. Can't find any data comparing 1960 Federal Gov't research dollars going to universities compared to 2018. Can you?
  21. Back when I went to college, it was much cheaper. The government funded RESEARCH being done by the colleges, which contributed to the college income, and reduced the tuition costs. And the products of the research benefitted the country. Perhaps you saw that we went to the moon at about that time.
  22. Will they? Won't they just get old and retire? Won't the younger ones take jobs doing something else? The old style newspapers governed themselves. The old style radio shows governed themselves. The old style television news governed themselves. We have a reality show government, where truth is the last resort. Will we see how it shakes out? Will it look like Europe in the late 1930's?
  23. Way back when, newspapers were expected to verify their sources, meaning that lies were not printed, because it was not ethical. It was even said that the average American didn't even know that FDR suffered from polio, because it was something that the news reporters decided not to report, because it didn't affect any political decisions. If World War II veterans could see the country that they fought for now, would they do it again?
  24. I prefer to consider myself an anti-"conservative". "conservatism"-the selective misapplication of genuine Conservative principles to promote the fleecing of America by special interests. I do believe that some issues that are supposed to be "liberal", are also defined by the special interests to be of benefit to the special interests, and are thus not genuinely Liberal. I do believe that much of what is reported in the media as being Liberal is really "liberal". I do believe that EVERYTHING reported as being Conservative is "conservative" I do believe that the most important fact of the modern electronic era, is to remember that somebody wants to make money from everything you read, except maybe the posters on a political forum. Or maybe the people posting amateur videos on how to fix your car.

No holds barred chat

  • Where’s at @slideman?

  • Hola

  • I know this one, this new chat thing. I've seen it called the "shoutbox" among other things in my past. Very hard to hide from the chat box. The question is asked, there's no time to go search what other folks think, this is real time. Only seconds should be between chat box replies. This one is made for me. In the chat box one has to be quick on their feet with stuff at the ready. This chat box is the worst nightmare of anyone trying to deal with ol' teach.

Scroll the other way for a while and you'll see me saying that these days the chat box ain't gonna work as one has to be quick on one's feet. The question is posed, there ain't no stinkin time for ya'll to refer to your betters for the answer, ya'll don't understand these things, this political debate, ya'll don't have the answer at hand, ya'll haven't thought this through, ya'll ain't ready for the next question I'll ask,  ya'll can't handle the pace that a bloke such as I can bring it in the chat box, ya'll can't handle this format.

This one is made for me.
