  1. Here is where I'm different. I don't believe it is the Church's job to tell the world (those who don't believe the Bible as I do) what is right or wrong. They already know what is right and what is wrong. Stealing is wrong, lying is wrong, murder is wrong, etc. I just want to talk about facts and common sense things that just make sense. Our Government is screwed up (both left and right sides). Greed is not good like many believe. Manipulation of the masses through deceptive messaging in media in order to get or keep your party in power. Mass quantities of money buying into our representatives. The absolute majority of America's population agree with these statements. The question isn't, are these thing right or wrong. The question needs to be, how do we fix these wrongs. But when someone wants to talk about solutions, the loudest voices are from those who just want to hear themselves pontificate. (hope I spelt that right)
  2. Hedonism in my understanding is a the act of governing one's self by pleasure to self. If it is pleasurable for me, it must be right. "And every man did what seemed right in his own eyes." Hedonism is not freethinking, it's selfish ambition for personal satisfaction.
  3. I gave the definition of a "Freethinker" based on the widely accepted definition found in dictionary forums noun 1. a person who forms opinions on the basis of reason, independent of authority or tradition, especially a person whose religious opinions differ from established belief. Just because the term has been hijacked and pinned onto the chest of some anti-religion, anti-authority, anti-anyone who doesn't agree with me movement, doesn't change the true definition and meaning. In fact, this little instance is exactly my point. Your against those who have hijacked the term and misused it in order to gain some kind of rebellious credibility. I refuse to conceed the phrase to those who would misrepresent it's true definition as well as to those who accept that it now represents some imposed meaning. Why can't our yes be yes and our no be no? Everything else is confusion.
  4. Just for the record, It is my understanding from the Bible I believe to be true and correct, that it teaches, - The Church (Body of Christ) is not called to enforce Biblical Commands upon the unbelieving world. - The commands given to it's followers are directed to it's followers only. - When the Church tries to enforce commandments God has given for the Church to follow, upon the world while not following those commandments itself, the result will always be the opposite of It's efforts. The Bible clearly and without prejudice teaches that God puts Governments (believing and non-believing) into power and takes the same out of power. "For judgement begins in the house of the Lord." If believers are obeying what they teach and profess to be God's commands for their own lives, God promises to surround them with a like-minded government. "If My people, who are called by My Name, will repent from thier wicked ways, call upon Me, I will heal thier land..." The New Testament portion of the Bible teaches it is the work of the Holy Spirit... - "to convince the unbelieving world of sin because it does not believe in Jesus, - of Righteousness because Jesus went back to the Father in Heaven for us to follow one day, - of Judgement because there really is a judgement awaiting the ruler of this world and all who follow him." By the way, If your reading this and thinking how can this guy be a free thinker making statements like these... then try to realize that my mode of thinking for the Church is pedicated on what the Church deems and accepts as facts. But when I converse with non-believers, I try desperately try to stick to naturally accepted facts. Things all decent and fair people would agree with... like love, kindness, forgiveness, peace, equality, etc. justmakesense
  5. The fact that many will through out quotes and comments of others as truth with no evidence for what they want to submit into evidence, is expected and regretfully understood. However, in any trial, evidence for or against any subject matter, must in and of itself be accepted as truth. My goal here is not to argue my or anyone elses beliefs, but talk about facts we can all agree are facts. For instance: - "Do unto others what you want other to do unto you." - "Change begins in your own heart first." - "Laws agreed upon, should be enforced." - "Prosperity for me at the clear and conscious harm to others is wrong." - "Prosperity for me at the clear and conscious help to others and within the law is right and should never be penalized." I believe that if enough citizens seek the well being of all according to what is good and right, things could get better.
  6. A genuine freethinking person should be free to think about a subject without the interference of... - Propiganda - Fear of loss - Desire for reward - Extreme Prejudice - Influence of Emotion - Fictitional Facts - Philosophical ideas A genuine freethinking person should be free to thiink about a subject with historical and contemporary evidences...
  7. Who is ... "justmakesense"? I am a white, conservative, pastor, male, raised in an all white small town in California as a non-Christian. I should, by these pre-existing factors be far from a free thinker. But if there is one thing I've learned from studying the Bible and comparing it to those who profess to be Christians, it is that many who call thenselves Christians misinterpret the scriptures in the light of their own prejudices. For those who study the Bible as a blank slate to be transformed into the likeness of Jesus, great people emerge. But when people take their own prejudices and interpret the Bible through that filter, hypocrates emerge. If a Bible student is honest and studying the Bible free from predetermined thinking or predetermined indoctrination, they will see an absolute fair and equitable teaching. A true "Freethinker" can be from any background and any belief and any nationality, and if diligent to put self interests aside and appreciate facts and truths for what they are and before their own opinions, a right and good community can exist. A perfect community can never exist until love for all permeates all leadership and decision making. What is a "Freethinker"? Full Definition of FREETHINKER: one who forms his or her own opinions about important subjects (such as religion and politics) instead of accepting what other people say... I would go one step further and add, : ...what you feel and seems to be best for you" justmakesense
  8. How do you clean a computer? 1: Defrag 2: You send in a program to identify and remove what isn't approved 3: Do away with redundancies I'm no computer wiz. But my point is that the computer began with some select software programs originally. Once we get it, we download and install a few programs we like, (games, tools, apps, etc) It's all well and good until we connect repeatedly to the world wide web. When I make a call to you, not only can I talk to you but you can talk back to me. Simply trying to convince the Lobbiest or the Congressionalist to play fare is like leaving the computer virus in tact, but asking it to play nice and obey the computer owner's wishes. You have to rid the virus entirely and get back to the basics. Too many virus' have infected our Governmental operations, our fair business practices, our foreign affair policies, our own moral certainties, we need to bypass new Lobbyist regulations and just eliminate the path the Lobbyiest have gained access through. 9. Wow, your giving conservatives a bad name with comments like that. I like what a good friend of mine said, "Take every thought captive, (before you type it down) and first make sure that it is sanctioned by the Teacher you profess to serve. I teach two or three times a week from the most challenging Book on the face of the earth. I consider this Book to be the Foundation for all Genuine Truth. However, many of those "Conservatives" that I teach, often allow their own predjudices to limit how they converse with those they are commanded to love. For you to decide that most Californians are... (I wont repeat your characterization), convinces me this will be our last conversation. Time to find some worth talking to. Adios
  10. The answer to my riddle: I'm the spawn from a far right mother and a left lib father who had to do drugs for 20 years just to de-indoctrinate myself. Now I'm 50+ and make decisions based on anicdotal evidence, proof of concept and I ignore the idiots
  11. Riddle me this, Joker. I throw with my right arm, I write with my left hand. I speak out bothsides of my mouth, And I'm neither right nor left brained. Who am I?
  12. First time to this or any other net-speak. As i was reading thru the many comments, I see that most are common senseless venting or peeps so politically inbread that they can't even weigh individual issues without using a fixed scale. I wonder if there are any free thinking solution finders out there to converse with.
