  1. Tesla is ordered to pay former worker $137 million for racism at plant

137 MILLION DOLLARS!?  Whose ass did they pull that number out of? For that much money I would allow the company to chain me to the company whipping post and beat the hell out of me. I'm not kidding. And, of course, the bill will be passed down to Tesla's customers. The Nigs just robbed us again. If they can't do it one way, they'll do it another.

Tesla Inc. must pay nearly $137 million to a Black former worker who said he suffered racial abuse at the electric carmaker's San Francisco Bay area factory.

A jury in San Francisco agreed that Owen Diaz was subjected to racial harassment and a hostile work environment.

Diaz alleged in a lawsuit that he was harassed and faced "daily racist epithets," including the "N-word," while working at Tesla's Fremont plant in 2015 and 2016 before quitting. Diaz was a contracted elevator operator.

Diaz alleged that employees drew swastikas and left racist graffiti and drawings around the plant. He contended that supervisors failed to stop the abuse.

"Tesla's progressive image was a façade papering over its regressive, demeaning treatment of African-American employees," the lawsuit said.

Diaz was awarded $6.9 in damages for emotional distress and $130 million in punitive damages, his attorney, said.

  2. Pence Diminishes Significance of Capitol Attack, Calls It "One Day in January"

On the day that thousands stormed the Capitol Building with chants of "Hang Pence!" and trying to disrupt the orderly transfer of power that has been our history, Pence pathetically tried to downplay The Insurrection. Partisan without shame. This will go down in the annals of U.S. history as an act of cowardice.

In an appearance on Sean Hannity’s Fox News program Monday night, former Vice President Mike Pence vastly downplayed the attack on the U.S. Capitol building earlier this year, describing the event — in which five people died — as “one day in January” that the media is trying to use as a distraction.

Pence’s views don’t align with what most Americans think of that day, when a mob of thousands of Trump loyalists breached the Capitol in order to disrupt the certification of now-President Joe Biden’s electoral win.

In May, an Economist/YouGov poll found that a majority of Americans supported the idea of a January 6 commission investigation into the day’s events, while just 30 percent were against it.

“I know the media wants to distract from the Biden administration’s failed agenda by focusing on one day in January,” Pence told Hannity. “They want to use that one day to try and demean the character and intentions of 74 million Americans who voted for Trump.”

  4. Sage Steele's comments about Barack Obama cause backlash

I always found this interesting too. Obama, Tiger Woods, Drake. They all had non-black mothers, but they identify as 'black'.  Why? Obama being an extreme example, because his father wasn't even around.

ESPN anchor Sage Steele remarked on former president Barack Obama’s Blackness.

Obama, whose father is from Kenya, selected “African-American” when completing his 2010 Census questionnaire. Steele noted the former president was raised by his White mother and maternal grandmother — not his Black father.

One of the TV show’s hosts pushed her to choose “Black” or “White,” Steele said. The host told her the Census Bureau allowed people to select only one and that Obama, who’s also biracial, had chosen Black.

“I’m like, ‘Well, congratulations to the president. That’s his thing.’ I think that’s fascinating considering his Black dad was nowhere to be found, but his White mom and grandma raised him, but hey, you do you. I’m going to do me.”

Steele released a statement, saying she apologized for her recent comments creating “controversy for the company.”

“We are in the midst of an extremely challenging time and that impacts all of us, and it’s more critical than ever that we communicate constructively and thoughtfully,” she said.

Reacting to Steele’s comments about Obama and Blackness, MSNBC host Joy Reid wrote on Twitter that the American construct of race was built by White people seeking to ensure the “purity” of Whiteness as a way of elevating themselves above the African people they were enslaving or their descendants. This gave rise to the “one-drop rule,” the concept that any amount of non-Whiteness — often imagined as “Black blood” — disqualified someone from being White.

Reid tweeted of Obama: “By every European/American-made conception of race he is Black (as is Ms Steele, sorry ma’am!)”

  5.  Facebook Outage Shows Risks of Its Monopoly, Ocasio-Cortez Says

Facebook Outage Shows Risks of Its Monopoly, Ocasio-Cortez Says (msn.com)

    (Full article at above link)

Facebook Inc.’s massive outage Monday was a reminder of its monopoly over communications and other services around the world, and it was the latest indicator that the company should be broken up, U.S. Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez said.

“If Facebook’s monopolistic behavior was checked back when it should’ve been, perhaps around the time it started acquiring competitors like Instagram, the continents of people who depend on WhatsApp & IG for either communication or commerce would be fine right now,” Ocasio-Cortez stated. Break them up!"

Menlo Park, California-based Facebook was sidelined for several hours by a major outage that left services inaccessible to many of its 2.7 billion global users. The shutdown affected countries around the globe, including in Latin America, where many people rely heavily on WhatsApp for communications.

“It’s almost as if Facebook’s monopolistic mission to either own, copy, or destroy any competing platform has incredibly destructive effects on free society and democracy,” Ocasio-Cortez wrote. “WhatsApp wasn’t created by Facebook. It was an independent success. FB got scared & bought it.”
